Facebook.......

Ahhhh Facebook.............in my continued Quest to live in the here and now and at the invitation of one of my daughters I joined Facebook. It's where it all happens I was told by several sources and so I did. It's where I got to view photos of my grandchildren's lives, which they never sent to us through email anymore. That's where I learned that two of my granddaughters are gun and rifle enthusiasts despite their mother being raised in a home where not even rubber knives were allowed, nor water pistols or any weapon plastic or real. That's where I learned that some of my grandkids party until the cows come home and use language that shouldn't be put out over the internet because colleges and prospective employers check Facebook, and that not only can you be "friended" but you can also be "unfriended" and I am sure that's not the language used. It is also sadly where I learned that on May 26. our new great-granddaughter arrived, rather than receiving a phone call to share this awesome event. It's also where I received a private message from a grandson to open something and when I did four viruses by-passed my AVG protection program and that's when I finally decided to say good-by to Facebook. I'd like to stay current in technology but it's moving too fast and I refuse to text, have a blackberry or stick a phone in my ear so I can drive with both hands. I figure people, kids, grandkids friends know how to contact me if they have something to share and if they want to send photos there is email or Walgreen's where they can send them direct. I'm going back to pretending it's a nicer world than it actually is and appreciate what I have and not waste further thoughts on what isn't.

  2. Karin! Karin! I didn't know you had a blog! Good for you, and it looks fantastic! I'm with you on the Facebook and more. Besides finding it a gross waste of time, since I really don't give a crappola what anyone is "doing" "at the moment" or "last week" for that matter- (which isn't much, really if they are always on the computer!) Right? Then we all- not me- sit around wondering why our children can't think creatively, read a great novel, or invent something. And then these kids go to school, are taught to a test, or their parents fill any spare moment with "activity", usually not creative activity or plop them in front of the tube. These grow up to be those who can't think outside the box, take initiative, or invent creatively a fix to a catastrophic problem like, say, the oil leak in the Gulf, (or should I call it the Gulf Gusher?)- oil LEAK!!??? Where are the creative thinkers??
    I. too will keep my "land line", for when I leave the house, it's to leave the house, to make human contact,- maybe... or maybe not to hear a phone ring! All this technological crap just takes from our ability to be human in the full sense of the word. To hug, to kiss, to hold a sad friend's hand, to close our eyes to what's really going on in our neighborhood, our community, and the country. It's become a money making corporate and might I say wasteful sick joke on us, and those too stupid to recognize it! I'm with you, Karin. Let's start a penmanship class and write people real letters! Or maybe, I guess, we're ready for the proverbial "shredder" in the sky soon?

  3. Also, kids today??? We think we raise them with the important coutesies, thoughtfulness, manners, etc. What happens later is the influence of a disrespectful, uncaring, self-centered society. Whay it's "all about me" society. A sad state of affairs, Karin, but you're not in the boat alone. So many of my friends have no kids, or one... Now you know why...Our art is our baby.
